Prepare Your Lawn For The End Of Summer
The end of summer is quickly approaching, with barely a month left before fall. To help prepare for the transition, we have some summer lawn care tips that will ensure your lawn is as healthy as it can be. Fall is known for falling leaves in other parts of the country, but in Colorado and Arizona, we have to worry about a drop in temperature and the change in humidity.
It’s important to take care of your lawn as the summer ends because once fall comes, winter isn’t far behind. The change in temperature will affect your lawn in ways that will throw all your effort away if you’re not careful.
HERE’S HOW TO PREPARE YOUR LAWN
There are a few summer lawn care tips that will help your lawn stay green and healthy through the end of summer and into fall.
- Sharpen your lawnmower blades. This is something you should be doing on a regular basis, both for your safety and to keep your lawn evenly cut. It’s even more important when it’s hot out when the grass is already likely to turn brown. An uneven cut can make some of your grass more susceptible to heat.
- Mow your lawn in the morning or at dusk. These are the coolest times of the day when you can safely see in front of you. Of course, you don’t want to cut your grass at night and put yourself in danger, but you don’t want to cut your grass during the day when the hot sun can burn your recently cut grass. This is when your lawn is most susceptible to browning.
- Mow your grass with higher blades. You should already be mowing your grass so it’s about three to four inches tall. Taller grass will lead to deeper roots that will help your lawn year-round, particularly during droughts.
- Mulch your grass. Mulch’s job is to control weed germination, retain moisture, retard evaporation, and make your yard look good. That’s we have an assortment of mulch offerings that cover the gambit of uses and looks for your lawn.
- Deeply water your lawn in the morning. Most lawns need about an inch of water, sometimes more with our area’s hot temperatures. Plus, due to the hot temperatures in Arizona especially, you want to water your lawn in the morning to avoid the water evaporating before the grass can absorb it. Better to drown your grass and let the sun take care of the excess than to let the sun evaporate it all.
Summer lawn care can decide how your lawn will look for the rest of the year. If you don’t properly take care of it, you may be spending the rest of the year trying to build it back up. Our summer lawn care tips are here to help you make sure that doesn’t happen, and your lawn stays green, with no brown in sight.
